On May 3, the Inyo County Office of Emergency Management will hold a full-scale emergency exercise at Bishop Airport in Bishop, California. The drill will simulate a mass-casualty incident and is organized in cooperation with Bishop Airport and several local agencies, including fire departments, emergency medical services, law enforcement, and Northern Inyo Hospital.
The exercise is planned to take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and aims to practice emergency response in a realistic setting. During the drill, residents can expect to see increased activity at the airport, including emergency vehicles, sirens, and actors simulating injured persons. A simulated fire and corresponding response operations will also be visible.
As part of the exercise, a test emergency alert will be sent to individuals enrolled in Inyo County’s Genasys Emergency Notification System, making clear that the alert is part of a test and requires no action.
Inyo County residents who have not signed up for emergency alerts are encouraged to register at ready.inyocounty.us. “This exercise allows our emergency response partners to practice and refine critical skills in a controlled, realistic environment,” said Inyo County Emergency Services Manager Mikaela Torres. “We thank the community in advance for their understanding and support as we work to enhance our readiness.”
Questions regarding the exercise can be directed to mtorres@inyocounty.us.
