Alpine County Schools: Diamond Valley Elementary School welcomed most students in 2022-23 school year

Diamond Valley Elementary School had the highest enrollment among Alpine County schools, welcoming 61 students during the 2022-23 school year, according to the California Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 54.1% of them were girls, and 45.9% were boys.

Data also showed that the majority of students were American Indian or Alaska Native, making up 50.8% of Diamond Valley Elementary School's total enrollment.

Among the two schools in Alpine County, Bear Valley Elementary School ranked second in enrollment numbers with seven students.

Diamond Valley Elementary School is part of Alpine County Unified School District, which roughly covers schools within Alpine County and has a main office in Markleeville.

In the previous school year, Diamond Valley Elementary School also had the highest number of students among Alpine County schools.

In the last decade, enrollment in California elementary and secondary schools rose by at least 5%, while high school enrollment dropped 5%.

However, overall enrollment in California public schools is sliding, and predicted by the Public Policy Institute of California to drop another 8% by the 2031-32 school year.
